PROJECT 2012
This was one of our biggest projects since we started.
The camps were held over seven consecutive days:
first camp was held in a small rural village called Panam. Ekom charity worked in collaboartion with one of the biggest teaching hospitals in the state of Punjab- Christian Medical Hospital (CMC). CMC is a chartiable hospital and we collborated with them to set up an eye camp. Over 500 people attended from and around neighbouring villages. Everyone was given a general health screening. Approximately 100 cataract operations were identified, which were carried out at the hospital and people were transported in a coach to and from the hospital.
Second camp was held in the Punjab state of Ludhiana. We estimated a footfall of about 4000 people over the three day duration. About 150 cataract operations were identied and performed at the CMC hospital.
We also collaborated with a large charitable limbs manufacturer and dental college;100 free dentures were given after pre-assessment and over 200 prosthetic limbs were suplied over the duration of the camp and including: 10 tricycles;20 wheel chairs; number of hearing aids, crutches, etc.
The final camp was in a small town called Jagraon and about 100 cataract operation were paid for. Ekom provided the funding for the eye and prosthetic limbs projects and BJD college for the dental camp.
